How the run works

• Down Pine St, across Bailey St, then north up Mechanic St the whole length.
• At the top, Howard St links Mechanic over to Rockland St.
• Turn west on Rockland for #5 and #31, then double back east past Howard for the rest of Rockland. That short out-and-back is why Howard St is passed twice.
• Rockland runs through from Washington St to Mechanic St — it is not a dead end.

AM vs PM

• AM only: 283 Mechanic, Mechanic @ Rockland, 222 Mechanic.
• PM only: 228 Rockland, the final drop.
• PM runs the neighbourhood in the same direction as AM — it is not the route reversed.
• Mechanic @ Feldman and 288 Mechanic sit 38 m apart; 220/235 and 228 Rockland are closer still. Where two stops would overlap, the map nudges the dots apart and draws a hairline back to each one’s true position — zoom in and they settle onto their real spots.
• Heading north, the bus actually reaches 288 Mechanic about 28 m before the Feldman Way corner, so on the ground stop 3 comes before stop 2. The numbering here follows the district’s published sheet rather than travel order.

The district’s route sheet is the authority, not this page: St John’s & Luce Bus Routes (PDF). That edition covers 2025–26 and was posted in August 2025 — check the school website for a newer sheet before relying on these stops for a new school year.

Stop positions are geocoded from OpenStreetMap and the path is the shortest legal driving route between them — not the district’s own turn sheet.

The school connector leg is the least certain part: several routes of similar length exist between Rockland St and Independence St, and the bus may well take a different one. The in-neighbourhood legs are unambiguous — there is only one way along Mechanic and Rockland.
